About Me

Welcome to ML Psychology.

I am Maggie Lee, a clinical psychologist based in Melbourne, Victoria.

ML Psychology was established by myself with the goal of providing affordable and quality psychological therapy to the wider community. The online nature of our services allow for therapy to be provided to the community all around Australia.

Every psychologist practises differently, with their own styles and their own personalities. Finding the right fit between psychologist and client is important to ensure positive therapeutic outcome. My approach to therapy can be best described as warm, open, curious, casual, individually tailored, and reflective. I strongly encourage reflection and feedback throughout our sessions, as I believe the best therapy comes from an open space to explore your experiences within the therapy space as well as your life outside of therapy. It is my belief that therapy is a useful tool to help us better understand ourselves, so that we can make the best-informed decisions, and bring about positive changes to our lives.

What should I expect from a psychology session?

If you haven't attended a psychology session before, it might feel daunting or even confusing about what a session might entail, or how it would look like. It is common for people to feel intimidated initially, but it is important to know that as psychologists, we are prepared to guide you through this.

The first session is often different from the other sessions. During the first session, my primary aim is to get an assessment of the issues that bring you into therapy. In other words, it is important for me to understand well the concerns you have that brought you into therapy. This will usually inform the goals of therapy, ultimately setting up our focus for future sessions. I will also ask questions about yourself, such as your work/studies, family, friends, hobbies, and just life in general. This helps me (and yourself!) understand the circumstances around your life that may be interacting, contributing, or even helping with these struggles that you are facing.

After that, sessions tend to progress towards more treatment-focused conversations. This may look like a discussion, a reflection space, roleplaying, identifying solutions, setting up management plans, or more guided and structured treatment-based steps. Some sessions will wrap up with 'homework' for yourself to complete/practise in between sessions (but this is definitely dependent on whether or not that's something you want!). You are free to bring up new concerns that you would like to add to our goals, or to revisit some of the previous topics that had been discussed.

Most importantly, there is no one correct way to do therapy. My biggest priority in sessions is to create a safe, accepting, and open space for you, so that we are able to collaboratively work together to help you achieve your desired outcomes through therapy.
